Site redesign

Within the next month, I will be working on a site redesign, so expect a great new design, and lots of brand new content, including Press and a Music Samples page, very soon!

I have been commissioned by pianist Bruce Levingston to write a 15-minute work for voice and piano.  More details to come.

Tobenski-Algera Concert Series: June 19

Another upcoming performance, titled “Gay Life: Songs by Gay American Composers”, will be held Tuesday, June 19 at Elebash Hall, NYC.  This concert will feature the premiere of the piano accompaniment version of David Del Tredici’s song cycle Gay Life, sung by myself and Rob Frankenberry, with Mr. Del Tredici at the piano.

Also on the program, Rob Frankenberry will reprise my cycle And He’ll Be Mine, and I will perform songs by Darien Shulman, Roger Zahab and Chet Biscardi.

This concert will be, in addition to a regular Tobenski-Algera event, a New York Gay Pride event and part of the year-long celebration for David Del Tredici’s 70th birthday. The City University of New York Graduate Center is very generously sponsoring the concert.

Admission is free, though donations are greatly appreciated.

till night is overgone

During my months’ residency at the VCCA, I composed til night is overgone, a set of 10 songs for tenor and piano on poetry by James Joyce.  The cycle will be premiered this Fall by tenor Denton Tobenski at Illinois State University.  Shortly after, it will receive its New York premiere with tenor Rob Frankenberry and pianist Marc Peloquin.
